FOR BETTER MOBILITY EXPERIENCES – Trainer’s Training in Budapest

A Course for Professionals who support people through geographic or social mobility.

Want to develop your knowledge and practice of helping people have better social and geographic mobility experiences?

Want to learn new techniques, methods and tools for engaging people in mobility situations and be able to evaluate the process?

The course is aimed at professionals working in:

1. for profit sector: coaches, counsellors working with expats, HR professionals, trainers working in multinational companies with a diverse team

2. higher education: Erasmus coordinators, mentors and counsellors of international students

3. NGO sector: social workers, professionals working with migrants, international volunteers, disadvantaged youth, teachers and other staff working in talent and mentoring programs

You will:
• Gain awareness of what makes successful geographic and social mobility experiences
• Become acquainted with transforming challenges into learning in cross cultural situations
• Develop knowledge of cross cultural situation theories, practises and guidance through these situations
• Develop basic competencies for working with people in mobility situations
• Learn and adapt tools and practises that help people connect with others across cultural borders
• Network with other practitioners and tutors working in similar environments

16 – 20 September 2013 Budapest, Hungary

Methodology:
The training is based on a combination of different activities and methodologies, relying on non-formal education. We invite participants to participate actively and share their experiences.

Activities include:

  • Structured exercises; role play, simulations to examine the dynamics of the different mobility situations
  • Small group tasks, discussions
  • Presentations and discussion of the different dimensions of mobility – including a field exercise
  • Sessions focusing directly on tools of mobility guidance and the MOMAP Survey and Toolkit which can be used in your guiding and support practice.

Info on the MOMAP Survey and Toolkit:

  • The purpose of the MOMAP Survey is to assess competences that help to carry out a successful mobility experience so that it can become a source of personal growth, satisfaction and skills development.
  • The survey examines motivations, challenges, identity orientation, relational strategies and intercultural competencies in situations of geographic and social mobility.
  • The results are generated immediately and give an overview about above mentioned competences connected to the mobility situation.
  • A specific tools have been developed to address the above dimensions and develop individuals’ skills
  • The survey and the tools are built on the research of the 4C Project.

COURSE FEE:

The fee includes course fee, course materials and handouts, refreshments, and free one year access to the MOMAP Toolkit. Housing and meals are not included.

Day 1: What is Mobility?
10.00-11.30 Presentation of the course, the participants and the trainers. Expectations.
11.45-13.00 What is Mobility? Who is mobile? The connection between geographic and social mobility. Presentation and discussion of 4C research results.
14.30-15.45 How does a mobility experience affect us? Presentation and discussion of the MOMAP mobility chart.
16.00-17.30 What are our motivations to change? How can we develop more intrinsic motivations?

Day 2: Mobility and its Challenges
9.30-11.30 Multiple identities and mobility
13.00-20.00 Field trip – simulation of a cultural immersion / mobility situation

Day 3: Challenges and Resources
9.30-11.30 Debriefing and the field trip – Evaluation of the mobility situation. The experience, it’s beauty and its challenges, difficulties and threats.
11.30-12.30 Handling culture shocks; Transforming a cultural shock into a source of learning.
14.30-18.00 Handling cultural transitions; intercultural skills and coping strategies

Day 4: Zoom on accompaniment tools of mobility
9.30-12.30 Introduction of the online questionnaire and toolbox
14.30-18.30 Market of good practices; presentation and discussion of methods brought by participants

Day 5: Focus on own practices
9.30-10.30 Recapitulation of the Mobility Chart – What makes mobility successful?
10.30-12.30 Group Task: working on own mobility guidance tools for own target groups
3.30-15.15 Presentation and discussion of results
15.30-16.00 Recapitulation and evaluation.
